We’re excited to be celebrating 20 years of Fairfields Farm!
That's two decades of growing potatoes, making delicious crisps and having a whole lot of fun along the way! We’ve been rummaging through the archives and have uncovered some real gems from over the years. Fancy taking a look back with us?
Back in 2006, husband and wife duo Robert and Laura Strathern decided to turn their homegrown potatoes into something a little different: crisps! With plenty of trials, testing and no doubt lots of tasting, they launched Lightly Sea Salted, Sweet Thai Chili, Sea Salt & Aspall Cyder Vinegar crisps, alongside their potato range.
You knew it was the mid-2000’s when there was one very important piece of technology on the farm: the trusty Nokia mobile phone. Not only was it a great way to keep in touch but it also doubled up as a handy potato measuring tool!
In 2012, Robert and Laura took the next big step and built a crisp factory right here on the farm. Growing our own potatoes and turning them into crisps onsite? Now that's what we call keeping things close to home!
With Robert and Laura still very much involved, Fairfields Farm has continued to grow while staying true to its roots. Along the way we have picked up more than 80 awards for our potatoes, crisps and the farm itself and attended many events across many counties.
Of course, it hasn't always been about crisps. Over the last few years, we've planted woodlands, built reservoirs to ensure a good crop whatever the weather throws at us and grown our sustainability story.
We've also had plenty of fun developing new flavours, including limited edition favourites such as Honey Roasted Chestnut and Sage flavour and launched our website, complete with monthly crisp subscription service for those who like to keep their cupboards well stocked.
Last year we launched our Secret Crisp Committee, giving the general public a chance to help choose which flavours make it into our range. After all, who knows what makes a great crisp better than the people eating them?
More recently, we've opened up the doors to a brand new office space at the farm, ready to give our growing team room to spread their wings. From two employees (Robert and Laura) to a passionate bunch of people across the farm, it's safe to say we have grown a little since those early trialling days.
Looking back it's incredible to see how far we've come. One thing that hasn't changed is we're still a farm at heart, proud of what we grow, what we make and the people who make it all possible.
